Minnesota State Fair

Hello everyone,

If you are reading this, I appreciate the time you’re taking to be looking at my website. You could be literally anywhere else… at a bar without a mask on, maybe the gym, maybe on TikTok before it becomes illegal…

…but seriously, thank you! I have a small following and I’m actually surprised anytime I get a notification saying that someone new has subscribed to my site. I’m still not sure what y’all are subscribing to, but maybe I’ll send you pretty emails when I figure it out. Just an FYI this website is a work in progress!

My painting “My Guernica” has been accepted into the 2020 Fine Arts Competition at the Minnesota State Fair. I was really nervous submitting my application, because I paint every day and I am already my harshest critic, so I set myself up for more disappointment/failure when I do things like that. Despite not knowing how the State Fair Competition Department would perceive a politically charged piece, I did it anyways. I got the email saying I was accepted the other day and I have to drop off my painting next weekend, so I’m stoked.

The fair has been cancelled this year, but certain parts of the fair are still open. The Food Parade tickets sold out in 4 hours, but there are still tickets available for the Fine Arts Building. The building will only be open at 25% capacity.

This year, the fair is also doing a virtual element for fairgoers which I believe includes a video walkthrough and an online catalog. To read more about this and purchase tickets, go to this website.

The painting will be on display August 26-September 6. The painting is for sale, but I’ve taken it down from my website in the meantime because if it sells during the fair, the State Fair Fund handles the transaction. If it doesn’t sell, I’ll put it back up on my website. I still have plenty of stickers and prints of this painting on my shop, so check that out!

Thanks for reading and see you soon.

Laura
