‘Forced Witness’ presents a vivid portrayal of recent social upheavals through Laura Hanson’s expressive, bold paintings. Documenting everything from the Minneapolis riots to the global pandemic and political unrest, each piece is a testament to her lived experiences and reflective process. These works highlight humanity's lowest points, chronicling the inability to act during a global health crisis, the turmoil of riots, war, and economic collapse. Her work, shown widely across Minnesota—from the Minnesota State Fair to the North Suburban Center for the Arts—now finds a new home in this publication. Released in conjunction with Laura’s solo exhibition of the same name at the Rumriver Art Center, this book showcases over 50 pieces from her 2020–2024 collection, inviting readers to engage in a dialogue that transcends chaos, toward healing and reflection.
